Who we are?

The DEERS/ID Card Office at Nellis AFB provides essential services for military members, retirees, and their families—including CAC issuance, dependent ID cards, and updates to DEERS records. The DEERS/ID office at Nellis Air Force Base is processing over 300 ID card requests every day.

In 2024, our ID Card Office processed an impressive 24,956 total ID cards (CACs and Uniformed Services ID Cards), ranking 5th across the entire U.S. Air Force.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    1. Do I need to bring my appointment confirmation to access the base?

    Yes. Please print a copy of your appointment confirmation page for base access. If you do not have a military sponsor, you must stop by the Visitor Center to obtain a base pass.

    2. What forms of ID are required for services?

    All customers age 18 or older must present two unexpired forms of ID—one must be a government-issued photo ID (e.g., Driver’s License, Passport). Acceptable secondary IDs include a Social Security card or Birth Certificate. All documents must be original or certified copies.

    3. What qualifies as a certified copy of a document?

    A certified copy is a document officially verified and signed as a true copy by the authority or office that holds the original record.

    4. My card is locked or PIN blocked—do I need an appointment?

    No appointment is needed for a blocked or locked PIN. You may walk in to the CAC/DEERS office for assistance.

    5. What documents are needed for Disabled American Veterans (DAV) to get an ID card?

    DAVs must schedule an appointment and bring the following:
    • VA Commissary Letter or Benefit Summary and Service Verification Letter (available at VA.gov)
    • Copy 2 or 4 of DD Form 214
    • VA Health ID Card
    • Driver’s License

    6. What’s required for a dependent to get an ID card?

    One of the following is required:
    • Presence of the sponsor
    • DD Form 1172-2 signed by the sponsor in front of a VO/SSM
    • Notarized DD Form 1172-2
    • Valid power of attorney

    7. When can I renew my ID card?

    ID cards may only be renewed up to 30 days prior to their expiration date. Example: If your ID expires on March 15, you can renew it starting February 15.
    If you have been promoted, you may renew earlier. Call for details.

    8. How many transactions are allowed per appointment?

    Each appointment allows up to two DEERS transactions. Example: Renewing two ID cards, or one CAC and one Dependent ID.

    9. What do I do if my CAC is lost or stolen?

    You must present a memo from your Unit Commander, First Sergeant, or CAC sponsor confirming the CAC has been reported as lost or stolen.

    10. What documents do I need for a retiree ID card?

    Bring your DD214 packet or retirement orders, along with two forms of unexpired ID. Your active duty ID card will be collected at the time of issuance.

    11. What if I'm a Reserve Retiree getting an ID for the first time?

    You must bring in your orders placing you on the Reserve Retiree list and two unexpired forms of ID.

    12. What are my responsibilities as a sponsor?

    Sponsors must report any additions or changes to family member status within 30 days to DEERS.

    13. What do I need to enroll a spouse in DEERS?

    Bring:
    • State-certified marriage certificate
    • Spouse’s Social Security card
    • Valid photo ID
    • Medicare card (if applicable)

    14. How do I enroll a newborn child in DEERS?

    Bring the child’s Birth Certificate or Certificate of Live Birth. The Social Security card will be required once received.

    15. How do I enroll a child born out of wedlock?

    For a male sponsor:
    • Child’s birth certificate
    • Social Security card
    • Court order establishing paternity or Voluntary Acknowledgment of Paternity registered in the child’s birth state

    16. How do I enroll a stepchild in DEERS?

    Bring:
    • Parent’s marriage certificate
    • Stepchild’s birth certificate
    • Stepchild’s Social Security card

    17. What documents are needed for full-time college students (ages 21–23)?

    Bring a letter from the school registrar confirming full-time enrollment and the expected graduation date or semester end date.

    18. When can I get a TRICARE Young Adult ID Card?

    Appointments must be scheduled on or after the effective date of coverage. Cards cannot be issued before that date.

    19. Can I walk in for a CAC if it's lost, inoperable, or I’m a new member?

    Yes. Walk-ins are accepted for mission-essential needs. Bring two forms of government-issued ID, including one photo ID.
    If lost/stolen, also bring a memo confirming the report.

    20. What’s required for contractor new hires or renewals?

    Contractors must be in the Trusted Agent Support System and have completed the Security Office vetting process. Please contact your TASM before scheduling or walking in.
